Description

Windows is an Operating System and the Operating System (OS) is your interface with the computer which allows you to see stuff on the screen, menus and icons, whereby you can point and click on stuff to make things happen.  It is that point and click environment that allows you to make selections and make the computer do things and work for you.

The 2 main OS types are Windows 7 and Windows 10, and there are less frequently used O/S like Windows 8/8.1, Vista, XP and Lynix

Windows 7 was released in 2009. It's smaller and geared towards mouse/mousepad users. It is a rock solid system as Microsoft had 10 yrs of updates to perfect it. Support for Windows 7 ends in 2020 which means no more updates, but if you're comfortable with the layout and have a decent anti-virus, you can continue to use it. Windows 7 is extremely user-friendly and it takes less learning time to be proficient in it.

Windows 10 is newer, larger and geared towards touch screen. It also receives the most focus on security updates and patches. Windows 10 comes with a built-in anti-virus called Windows Defender, and it works well. Eventually, almost everyone will be using Windows 10, whether they like it or not, until the next operating system is out.
